(341 words) Ilya Ilyich Oblomov - the title character of the novel I.A. Goncharova. Throughout the work, we observe a character who is looking for the meaning of life, but never finds it. The composition of the book is designed in such a way that at first the reader plunges into the life and everyday life of Ilya Ilyich, thanks to the details and description, understands his character and habits, and only then the process of personality formation is revealed to him.
The novel begins with a description of Oblomov’s house and his room. Externally, the situation corresponds to the canons of fashion, but all the furniture is in ruins: dust and cobwebs everywhere. Ilya Ilyich himself lies on the couch all day, regrets his misfortunes (the upcoming move and crop failure on the estate), makes plans for future reforms that he wants to carry out in Oblomovka, and dreams. And, like, everything would be fine, but this is how the whole life of the hero goes.
The only thing that could inspire Oblomov to return for a short time to an active lifestyle was love. With the advent of Olga, the hero was transformed. He wanted to please her, like him, be worthy of her. But in these respects, Ilya Ilyich was forced to pretend that over time he became a burden. The union with Ilyinskaya disintegrated. After a while, another woman appeared - Agafya Pshenitsyna. Family life with Agafia, on the contrary, was monotonous, but it was she who was able to give Oblomov the idyll that he had remembered from childhood, about which he had dreamed in conversations with his friend Stoltz. It was Pshenitsyna who fell in love with the real Ilya Ilyich. She did not demand the impossible from him and accepted him as he was. This attitude returned Oblomov to his apathy, and again he stopped rising from the couch and became interested in the outside world. All his worries did not go beyond the room where he was lying on the sofa, ate deliciously and sometimes played with his son.
What was the reason? The answer to this question can be found in the central chapter of the work, which even, unlike the others, has its own title - “Oblomov’s Dream”. It describes the childhood of the protagonist, which he spent in a family estate, the ideal of comfort and carefree life. At first, Ilya Ilyich, while still a little curious child, showed a keen interest in life and everything that surrounded him, but over time this environment consumed him, and he obeyed the general way of life - “Oblomovism”.
