(331 words) The work “Hero of Our Time” is overflowing with romanticism. For him, as we know, unusual actions, unrequited love, exotic landscapes and a specific hero, incomprehensible by society, are characteristic. He seeks "peace in the storm," but he still cannot find his place in this world. A bored soul requires emotions and feelings from the world, but it itself responds only with longing and disappointment. The author’s goal is to reveal the essence of a romantic hero.
Recall the chapter "Bela", where the hero in exotic conditions meets a completely different society - the Highlanders, falls in love with the savage and kidnaps her. This is a typical sketch for a romantic plot. Soon his love fades away, more and more often Pechorin leaves the girl alone and leaves for a long time. In his behavior towards her, Lermontov emphasized all those shortcomings that at that time he considered vices of the whole society. The portrait of Pechorin is a collective image of young people of that time who imitated a romantic pattern from popular books: he is cold, arrogant and cynical, does not believe in love and quickly cools down to what he takes up with fervor. This is pure romanticism when, in pursuit of an ideal, a person stigmatizes real life with contempt. When Bela ceased to be an obsession, became a given, the romantic ceased to be interested in her.
Also about romanticism speak specific descriptions of nature. M. Yu. Lermontov in the novel “Hero of our time” pays special attention to the description of the landscape. So, the hero notices a red month on the eve of the death of Vulich. The instinct did not deceive Pechorin - the hero really saw on the face of his comrade the "seal of death." That is, nature not only reflects feelings, but also exposes the suspicions of the character, his thoughts. He is inextricably linked with nature and understands its hidden allusions. This is how romantic writers perceived the world around them.
But most of all, in my opinion, about romanticism is the fact that Lermontov and Pechorin are similar in life positions. Pechorin was a dreamer; he, like Lermontov, fought to the death and died in the color of years. But Mikhail Yuryevich himself was a representative of the generation that he described in the image of his hero. He was also a hero of his time, and in his time, romanticism was not only a literary trend, but also a whole culture that shaped views.
