In the introduction, the author reports that the only purpose of his life is to write the story of penguins. To do this, he studied many sources, and above all the chronicle of the greatest penguin chronicler John Talpa. Like other countries, Penguin survived several eras: ancient times, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, new and modern centuries. And its story began from the moment when the holy elder Mael, transferred by the machinations of the devil to the island of Alcu, christened the Arctic birds from the family of foot-footed, taking them for people because of deafness and almost complete blindness. The news of the baptism of penguins caused extreme surprise in paradise. The most prominent theologians and theologians disagreed: some offered to give the penguins an immortal soul, others advised to send them to hell right away. But the Lord God ordered Saint Mael to correct his mistake - to turn penguins into people. Having fulfilled this, the elder dragged the island to the Breton shores. The devil was put to shame.
Through the efforts of the saint, the inhabitants of the island received clothes, but this did not contribute to the rooting of morality. Then the penguins began to kill each other over the land, thereby asserting property rights, which meant undoubted progress. Then a census was made and the first General States were convened, who decided to save the noble penguins from taxes by placing them on the mob.
Already in ancient times, Penguin found the patron saint - Orberosa. Together with her roommate Kraken, she delivered the country from a fierce dragon. It happened as follows. The mighty Kraken, having put a helmet with horns on his head, robbed his fellow tribesmen at night and abducted their children. A sign came to Saint Mael that only the immaculate maiden and the fearless knight can save the penguins. Upon learning of this, the beautiful Orberosa volunteered to perform a feat, referring to her virgin purity. The kraken built a wooden frame and covered it with leather. Five boys were taught to get into this structure, move it and burn the tow so that flames burst from the mouth. In front of admiring penguins, Orberosa led the dragon on a leash, like a submissive dog. Then the Kraken appeared with a sparkling sword and ripped open the monster’s belly, from where the previously disappeared children had jumped out. In gratitude for this heroic deed, the penguins pledged to pay an annual tribute to Kraken. Desiring to inspire beneficial fear in the people, he adorned himself with a dragon crest. The loving Orberosa comforted the shepherds and herds for a long time, and then devoted her life to the Lord. After death, she was counted among the saints, and the Kraken became the ancestor of the first royal dynasty - the Draconids. Among them there were many wonderful rulers: for example, Brian the Pious acquired glory by cunning and courage in the war, and Bosco the Magnanimous was so concerned about the fate of the throne that he killed all his relatives. The magnificent Queen Kryusha became famous for her generosity - however, according to John Talpa, she did not always know how to humble her desires with the arguments of reason. The end of the medieval period was marked by the centennial war of penguins with dolphins.
The art of this era deserves all attention. Unfortunately, penguin painting can only be judged by the primitives of other nations, since penguins began to admire the works of their early artists only after they were completely destroyed. From the literature of the XV century. we have reached a precious monument - the story of the descent into the underworld, composed by the monk Marbod, an ardent admirer of Virgil. When the whole country still touched in the darkness of ignorance and barbarism, a certain Gilles Loiselle studied the natural sciences and the humanities with unquenchable ardor, hoping for their inevitable revival, which will soften morals and establish the principle of freedom of conscience. These good times have come, but the consequences were not quite as it seemed to Penguin Erasmus: Catholics and Protestants engaged in mutual destruction, and skepticism spread among philosophers. The century of reason ended with the collapse of the old regime: the king's head was cut off, and Penguin was proclaimed a republic. Overcome by troubles and exhausted by wars, she carried out in her own womb her murderer - General Trinko. This great commander conquered half the world, and then lost it, bringing the immortal glory of Penguin.
Then came the triumph of democracy - an Assembly was elected that was fully controlled by the financial oligarchy. The penguin was suffocating under the weight of spending on a huge army and navy. Many hoped that with the development of civilization, wars would end. Wanting to prove this claim, Professor Obnubil visited New Atlantis and found that the richest republic had destroyed half of the inhabitants of Third Zealand in order to force the rest to buy umbrellas and suspenders from her. Then the sage bitterly told himself that the only way to improve the world is to blow up the entire planet with dynamite.
The Republican system in Penguin has generated many abuses. Financiers have become a true scourge of the country because of their arrogance and greed. Small merchants could not feed themselves, and nobles more and more often recalled the former privileges. Dissatisfied looked with hope at Prince Kryusho, the last representative of the Draconid dynasty, who ate the bitter bread of exile in Delphinia. The monk Agarik became the soul of the conspiracy, who attracted the father of Cornemius to his side, who became rich in the production of St. Orberosa liquor. The royalists decided to use one of his defenders, Chatillon, to overthrow the regime. But the dragonfly case was undermined by internal divisions. Despite the seizure of the Chamber of Deputies, the coup ended in collapse. Chatillon was allowed to flee to Dolphinia, but the winemaker was confiscated from Cornemius.
Soon after, Penguin was shocked by the theft of eighty thousand mines of hay stockpiled for cavalry. The Jewish officer, Piro, was accused of having sold wonderful Penguin hay to treacherous dolphins. Despite the complete absence of evidence, Piro was convicted and placed in a cage. Penguins imbued him with unanimous hatred, but there was a renegade named Colomban who spoke out in defense of the despicable thief. At first, Colomban could not leave the house without being stoned. Gradually, the number of pyrotists began to increase and reached several thousand. Then Colomban was seized and sentenced to capital punishment. An angry mob threw him into the river, and he swam out with great difficulty. In the end, Piro received freedom: his innocence was proved by the efforts of the judicial adviser to Schospier.
Recent centuries have begun with a terrifying war. The romance between the wife of Minister Ceres and Prime Minister Vizier had catastrophic consequences: having decided on everything to destroy his enemy, Ceres ordered articles devoted to the warlike views of the head of government. This caused the sharpest responses abroad. The exchange fraud of the Minister of Finance completed the job: on the day of the fall of the Vizier Ministry, the neighboring hostile empire recalled its envoy and sent eight million soldiers to Penguin. The world was choked with blood. Half a century later, Ms. Ceres passed away, surrounded by universal respect. She bequeathed all her property to the community of St. Orberosa. The apogee of penguin civilization has come: progress has been expressed in deadly inventions, in vile speculations and disgusting luxury.
Future times and history without end. The giant city employed fifteen million people. People lacked oxygen and natural food. The number of lunatics and suicides has grown. Anarchists completely destroyed the capital with explosions. The province has fallen into disrepair. Centuries seemed to have sunk into eternity: hunters again killed wild animals and dressed in their skins. Civilization went through its new circle, and again fifteen million people worked in the gigantic city.
