: A horse asks a person: is it true that once their tribe lived easily and freely. A man cannot admit to a horse that this is true, and loses its friendship and trust.
The narrator loves horses, which are very difficult to live with: the groom groomes them poorly, forgets to feed and drink, and, moreover, the vulture pests them. When he can, he comes to them and tries to feed them. On one of these visits, the narrator notices that Redhead is crying. From the horse’s story he learns that the horses had a debate about horse life.
The redhead heard a song about the times when horses lived well. These songs were sung to her by an old mare, who heard them from her mother, and that from her. When Ryzhukha listened to these songs, it was easier for her to work, she forgot about the heat and other difficulties of horse life. Having gone out into the meadow, the young horse began to sing the songs of the old mare to her comrades. But other horses laughed Ryzhuha, they said that this was all a lie, asked not to poison the soul.
A horse asks a person if the song says it is true. The narrator cannot stand the gaze of Gingerbread Man. He knows that this is all true, but he cannot say this to his four-legged girlfriend. The man is leaving. Only then he realizes that he has made an irreparable mistake, and that he will never again have such sincerity and confidence in relation to Ryzhukha.
